New Brunswick's provincial government, led by Premier Susan Holt, unveiled a new strategy called "Defence Ready: New Brunswick’s Defence Growth Framework" on November 6, 2026, aiming to expand its role in Canada’s defence industry. The plan includes four pillars: industry and investment; technology and innovation; infrastructure and resources; and base and community growth. Holt stated that the province aims to increase its GDP from the sector by $762 million today to $1 billion by 2030, creating jobs and boosting the provincial economy by 10% in the process. The framework highlights New Brunswick's second-highest military employment per capita and houses the largest military training facility in Eastern Canada at CFB Gagetown in Oromocto. Holt also announced an investment in wastewater treatment infrastructure to support anticipated growth of over 2,000 people due to both civilian and base member expansion.
