Aston Villa dropped their threat of legal action against Jamie Carragher on November 2, 2026. On October 31, the club had announced they would sue Carragher for making what they called "unacceptable insults" about the club and its fans during an episode of the Stick to Football podcast earlier in the week. Carragher suggested that Villa manager Unai Emery might be interested in becoming Manchester United's head coach if Michael Carrick were fired, which angered Villa supporters. He also told Villa fans to “shut up,” prompting the legal threat from Aston Villa chairman Nassef Sawiris. After apologizing for his language and clarifying that he meant his comments "tongue in cheek," Carragher's critics at Villa softened their stance and withdrew the lawsuit.
