On November 2, 2026, China’s central bank, the People’s Bank of China (PBOC), launched a US$15 billion asset swap facility to stabilize the country's struggling A-share market after its worst sell-off in almost a decade. The PBOC introduced this one-year swap program allowing institutional investors to exchange illiquid assets for liquid ones with the central bank, enabling them to buy stocks. Thirty-one institutions have applied to participate in the program with a combined size of 100 billion yuan (US$15.04 billion). This move aims to shore up investor confidence and mitigate new financial risks threatening China’s market stability.
