Sen. Chris Murphy, a Democrat from Connecticut, was hospitalized on November 1, 2026, after experiencing a stroke while at his son’s hockey game in Connecticut. His chief of staff, Allison Herwitt, announced that Murphy began feeling numbness in his arm Saturday afternoon and was immediately taken to a local hospital before being transferred to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Maryland for further monitoring.
Doctors are encouraged by Murphy's progress, stating he is "awake and alert" and optimistic about a full recovery. At 53 years old, Murphy has been actively campaigning across the country for Democratic candidates during the midterms but is not running himself this year. He had previously criticized President Donald Trump’s policies regarding Iran.
The American Stroke Association recommends recognizing stroke symptoms with the acronym BE FAST: Balance issues, Eyesight problems, Facial droop, Arm weakness, Speech difficulties, and Time to call 911.
