As of November 1, 2026, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Faisal Karim Kundi asserted that the people of the province would have priority access to its resources. Speaking at a ceremony in Peshawar, he stated, "Till I am here, the people of KP will have the first right to its resources." This came after the imposition of governor's rule and emergency in KP, with Kundi taking administrative control. He emphasized that his top priorities were protecting the province’s residents, then the province itself, and ultimately Pakistan.
The governor’s comments follow allegations by Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who claimed the government's actions in KP were aimed at controlling the province’s resources. Earlier in a National Assembly session, Rehman had criticized the federal government for imposing emergency and governor's rule in KP, questioning their intentions regarding mineral resources.
His assertions follow allegations by Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman that the imposition of governor’s rule and emergency in KP was linked to government’s motive to take control of its resources.
