A Wisconsin infant named Don’Vayaire Avita-Mays, affectionately called "Baby Don," died on October 24, just two days before his first birthday, after swallowing a piece of a balloon animal at a Halloween party. His mother, Kisha Avita-Wilson, told NBC Chicago that while they were keeping balloons away from Baby Don, one popped and he grabbed the tied-up part, which then lodged in his esophagus. Despite attempts by his mother to perform CPR and remove the object with her fingers, and first responders' efforts using a tube and pliers, their actions could not save him. The tragic incident highlights the dangers of balloon decorations at parties for young children.
