Story summary

Mohamed Alameddine, a junior winger on Lebanon's rugby league team for the 2026 Rugby League World Cup, remains sidelined from his contract with the Parramatta Eels due to safety concerns related to familial ties with a Sydney crime family. Despite this setback, Alameddine was selected by the Cedars and has received support from his teammates as he prepares for a potential appearance in the team's final World Cup match tonight. The decision to exclude him from the NRL club raises questions about balancing player talent against security risks associated with organized crime ties.

Why this leaning score

This article does not take a side on a contested political question, so it has no leaning score. That is an answer rather than a gap: a match report or a rescue can be warmly or critically written without being left or right, and scoring it anyway is how approval of a subject gets recorded as a political position.
