Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) suspended Kissimmee Mayor Jackie Espinosa on Friday after she was arrested earlier this month on two felony charges related to corruption in a local grant program. In response to her suspension, Vice Mayor Angela Eady will now serve as mayor until the suspension is revoked or until Espinosa's current term ends. DeSantis’s order also prohibits Espinosa from receiving any pay, allowances, or other privileges of office during her suspension period. The arrest and subsequent suspension center around alleged fraudulent activities involving a local grant program, though specific details on the nature of these charges have not been fully disclosed.
