As of October 31, 2026, Aston Villa announced they will sue Jamie Carragher for what they called "unacceptable insults." The controversy began when Carragher suggested on a podcast that Aston Villa manager Unai Emery might want to leave the club to manage Manchester United. Carragher's comments, including telling Villa fans to "shut up," drew strong criticism from the club and its supporters. In response, the club chairman Nassef Sawiris released a statement declaring legal action against Carragher. Later that day, Carragher apologized for his language on another podcast but maintained he was speaking in jest about Emery's managerial ambitions.
