Despite Democrats not winning a statewide office in Florida for eight years, they are currently competing strongly in several key races this election cycle. Republicans have control over the state legislature and have redrawn congressional district boundaries to favor their party, aiming to flip at least four districts from Democratic to Republican. However, Democrats are still causing concern among Republicans with their performance in these high-stakes contests.
It’s been eight years since Democrats won a statewide office in Florida, 14 years since a Senate seat, and 32 years since the governor’s office.
Democrats are holding their own this cycle in other high-stakes races, including competitive congressional districts redrawn by the Republican-controlled legislature designed to flip at least four of them red.
