As of October 30, 2026, Nigerian troops, supported by air power, have killed 48 Islamist fighters after repelling attacks on military bases in the states of Borno and Yobe. The military spokesperson, Captain Mohammed Goni, reported that overnight assaults by Boko Haram and its splinter group ISWAP were thwarted in Bitta, Borno, and a training school in Buni Yadi, Yobe. One soldier was killed and two were lightly wounded during the counter-offensive operations. Despite years of efforts to contain the 17-year insurgency, attacks on military positions by these groups have intensified recently.
