As of October 30, 2026, a rare ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine has been implemented in the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky, allowing for the first time since February 2022 an aid convoy carrying food and medical supplies to enter the town. The White House announced that Melania Trump had brokered this temporary truce, which began on October 29. Both Russia and Ukraine confirmed the completion of demining operations around Oleshky, enabling the humanitarian mission to proceed. Despite initial skepticism from both sides, the ceasefire has held for four days, allowing international reporters to accompany the aid convoy. However, a separate incident occurred on the same day when a Russian drone attack killed at least 14 people at Dnipro's train station in Ukraine.
The move follows weeks of efforts to organise a relief operation for residents of the acutely deprived town, seized by Russian forces soon after Moscow's February 2022 invasion of its smaller neighbour.
