Quick Summary

Kansas City Chiefs special teams coordinator Dave Toub stated that despite recent struggles and the signing of Justin Tucker to the practice squad, kicker Harrison Butker will remain the team's primary kicker for their Week 8 game against the Denver Broncos. Toub emphasized efforts to improve Butker’s performance, noting his perfect record in a windy condition during a previous game. The controversial move involving Tucker, who faces allegations of sexual misconduct, has raised eyebrows but coach Andy Reid avoided discussing Tucker’s background while stating he did due diligence before signing him.

Story summary

As of October 30, 2026, despite signing veteran kicker Justin Tucker to compete with him, Dave Toub, the special teams coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs, maintains that Harrison Butker remains the starting kicker. Butker has struggled this season, missing five out of sixteen field-goal attempts, including two in a recent loss to the Seahawks. However, Toub noted that Butker performed well in practice under windy conditions (28 mph gusts), going 10-for-10 with Tucker present. The Chiefs are expected to keep Butker as their kicker for their upcoming Week 8 game against the Broncos, which will determine the first place in the AFC West.

Why this leaning score

This article does not take a side on a contested political question, so it has no leaning score. That is an answer rather than a gap: a match report or a rescue can be warmly or critically written without being left or right, and scoring it anyway is how approval of a subject gets recorded as a political position.
