Venezuela's interim President Delcy Rodriguez announced on October 29 that the government is making progress in identifying state assets to be offered to the private sector or returned to their former owners. This move could reverse nationalizations ordered by former President Hugo Chavez. In a televised address, Rodriguez stated she has instructed officials to assess non-essential state-held assets and determine which can be privatized or returned. Since April, a government commission has been auditing state-owned assets in key industries like energy, power, and mining. Under Chavez's rule, nationalizations resulted in over a dozen international arbitration claims that remain unresolved by the current government. Rodriguez also vowed to protect peaceful protest rights amid a history of political repression in Venezuela.
