A federal judge set a trial date for Cole Tomas Allen, who is charged with attempting to kill President Donald Trump during the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on April 25, 2026. The trial is scheduled to start with jury selection on September 7, 2027, in Washington, D.C., and is expected to last three to four weeks. Prosecutors had initially recommended starting the trial earlier but Judge Trevor McFadden set a later date after Allen's attorney requested more preparation time.
Allen, a 31-year-old from Torrance, California, stormed the dinner at the Washington Hilton hotel while armed with guns and knives and fired a shotgun at a Secret Service officer who tried to stop him. The officer was hit once in a bullet-resistant vest but did not injure Allen, who had previously written rants against Trump’s policies before the attack. Video footage showed dramatic scenes as White House officials were rushed to safety, leading to an early cancellation of one of Washington's most high-profile annual events.
