As of October 29, 2026, two people were killed and one was injured when a rock spire known as a "fairy chimney" collapsed at a tourist site in Turkey's Cappadocia region after heavy rainfall. The incident occurred near a parking lot entrance to the Göreme Open Air Museum, a UNESCO-listed area famous for its unique volcanic formations. Governor Huseyin Kok stated that recent rains likely caused the collapse and rescue teams were searching for any additional victims trapped under debris. Later reports suggested at least three deaths in total, including one foreign national. The Justice Minister initiated an investigation into the incident, while local officials continued search-and-rescue efforts.
