Hong Kong will establish a new Building Maintenance Support and Services Council to oversee building renovations, assign inspection consultants to property owners, handle tendering processes, and evaluate contractor performance. This overhaul comes in response to the deadly blaze at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po last November, which led to Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu offering a formal apology. The council will also work alongside restructuring of the Buildings Department and stricter regulation of contractors to prevent future incidents.
