In the lead-up to November's state election, Labor has pledged to upgrade 25 local roads across Victoria at a cost of $893 million. Many of these upgrades are aimed at highly contested electorates such as Ripon, Morwell, and South-West Coast. The plan includes duplicating the Ballarat-Carngham Road to four lanes in Ballarat, installing new traffic lights at Howitt and Burke Street in Warragul, and building a dual-lane roundabout at Rober Road and Goulburn Valley Highway in Kialla. Of the 25 roads earmarked for repair, 19 will be located in regional Victoria. This initiative comes as part of Labor's effort to compete with the Liberal Nationals Coalition, which has promised to invest $5 billion in road repairs if elected. Both major parties are focusing on improving country roads to win over dissatisfied regional voters.
