I’ve used plenty of Kindles in my day.

A lifelong book lover, I got my first Kindle as a 13-year-old in 2010 when Amazon launched the Kindle Keyboard and used it to read all of the hottest young adult novels of the era.
asserted
Amazon → get → era
I’ve grown up with my Kindles, upgrading them occasionally as Amazon released new generations and filling them with my favorite books.
asserted
Amazon → grow → books
Now, I’ve been testing them for work for the past four years — but is it really “work” if you’re having so much fun doing it?
asserted
you → test → it
There’s nothing I love more than unboxing a new e-reader and getting into it.

Lucky for me, I got to do one of my favorite things just a few weeks ago.

Amazon recently gave the entire Kindle line a facelift, with new aluminum designs, bright colors and long-awaited accessories.
asserted
Amazon → give → designs
Pros:
- Replaceable battery
- Automatically adjusting front-light
- Thinner, lighter design
Cons:
- USB-C charging cable not included
- Wireless charging only supported with Amazon’s charging dock
- Price point may be high for some
The newest Amazon Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition (32GB) features a sleek aluminum design and a 7-inch, glare-free, high-resolution display for a comfortable, paper-like reading experience anywhere.
uncertain
Edition → adjust → experience
With 32GB of storage, an auto-adjusting front light, waterproof protection, and up to 12 weeks of battery life, it’s perfect for avid readers who want premium features and the freedom to enjoy thousands of books on the go.

Setting up a new Kindle is often quick and simple, and this model is no exception.
asserted
model → set → Kindle
When you first power it on, you’re given the option to set it up directly on the device or by scanning a QR code and setting it up on your mobile device.
asserted
you → power → device
Doing it this way will automatically carry Wi-fi details over and you’re able to use Amazon’s “simple setup” in the Kindle app.
asserted
you → do → app
You also have the option, shown here, to link the device to your Amazon account when you buy it to simplify setup even more with its Frustration-Free Setup.

Kindle Paperwhite 2024 vs. 2026
The Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition (13th Generation) has been completely redesigned to be thinner, lighter and more colorful.
asserted
Paperwhite → redesign → 2026
The new models ditch plastic back housing for lightweight aluminum and slim down the whole design with a flatter edge and back.
asserted
models → ditch → edge
The 12th Generation model (pink and black in the photos below) is 7.8 mm thick, while the new one measures in at 6.8 mm.
asserted
one → measure → mm
It’s a small difference, but still one you can still feel when holding the devices.
asserted
you → ’ → devices
When the 12th generation Kindles came out, Amazon introduced a colored backing for the first time, but the 13th generation takes that color and brings it to the front of the device, too; now, a case won’t hide the color of your device because it’s all-over.
asserted
it → come → device
The 2024 model has the power button on the bottom next to the charging port, making it extremely easy to accidentally turn the device off.
asserted
it → have → device
The back panel pops off along the seam of the display (after removing the two tiny screws along the bottom of the device, on either side of the charging port) to easily remove and replace the battery on your own.
asserted
panel → pop → own
When it comes to charging the device, the 13th generation Kindle’s wireless charging has been reconfigured and is only compatible with the all-new Amazon Charging Stand, rather than the 12th gen’s compatibility with any Qi wireless charger.
asserted
charging → come → charger
Both Kindle generations have 300 ppi e-ink screens that are anti-glare, but the 13th Gen models have a higher contrast ratio for deeper blacks and crisper text — and that is something I noticed immediately when I fired it up.
asserted
I → have → it
Amazon also notes that the 2026 Paperwhite only uses battery when you turn a page or use the front light.
asserted
you → note → light
They are also both IPX8 rated to withstand immersion in 2 meters of fresh water for 60 minutes, perfect for reading in the bath, beach or pool.
asserted
They → rat → bath
For me, the small updates made to the devices between generations actually make a huge difference in my reading experience overall.

In addition to testing the new Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition, I also tried out two of the new accessories Amazon released to enhance your reading experience: the Kindle Page Turn Cover (retails for $79.99) and the Kindle Click remote (retails for $34.99).
asserted
Amazon → test → 34.99
As someone who used and loved the Kindle Oasis back in 2023, I found myself missing the physical page turn buttons that it offered as Amazon phased that style out.
asserted
Amazon → use → style
I’ve also used Kobo devices in the past and gravitated toward them simply due to the buttons.
asserted
I → use → buttons
The Page Turn Cover turns the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition into an e-reader with page turn buttons while keeping its slim, lightweight profile intact.
asserted
Cover → turn → profile
I was expecting there to be some sort of setup or calibration with the Page Turn Cover, but the setup is nonexistent.
asserted

As you can see above, the Kindle slides right into the case by pressing the right side up against the edge of the case.
asserted
Kindle → see → case
It’s held on with magnets and stayed in place even when I shook it vigorously.
asserted
I → hold → it
Left-handed readers can still take advantage of the Page Turn Cover even though the buttons are on the right, because you can rotate the screen and the buttons will recalibrate automatically to be held in your left hand instead of your right.
asserted
buttons → take → hand
At $79.99, the price is a bit steep for a case, but I feel that it keeps my Kindle protected from bumps and scratches while adding on a function that I’ve desperately missed from Amazon’s e-readers.
asserted
I → feel → readers
The Kindle Click remote is another accessory that I would recommend buying in tandem with a new Kindle device.
asserted
I → recommend → device
The slim device has two large buttons on the front (forward one page and back one page) and two smaller buttons on the side to adjust the screen brightness.
asserted
device → have → brightness
Kindle remotes are not a new concept, especially if you follow Bookstagram or BookTok content creators online.
asserted
you → follow → creators
The major difference between this Amazon-branded remote and ones that were on the market previous is that the new Kindle Click uses Bluetooth to connect to your Kindle device.
asserted
Click → brand → device
Other page-turning remotes require a second piece of hardware that clips onto the screen of your e-reader to act as a sensor, which creates the potential for an obstructed reading experience.
asserted
which → turn → experience
The Kindle Click is one piece and connects easily, as long as the Bluetooth on your Kindle is turned on.
asserted
Bluetooth → connect → Kindle
