On October 29, 2026, Erin Patterson's appeal against her conviction for the murder of three relatives and attempted murder of another using death cap mushrooms was dismissed by the Victorian Court of Appeal. The court ruled that Patterson will never be released from prison due to the "shocking criminality" involved in her actions. She had been previously sentenced to life imprisonment with a non-parole period of 33 years for poisoning Don and Gail Patterson (her husband's parents) and Heather Wilkinson (his aunt), along with attempting to murder Ian Wilkinson, Heather’s husband, who survived the incident. The murders occurred in July 2023 during a lunch at her home in Leongatha, regional Victoria.
