A woman involved in a shark tagging expedition near Tybee Island, Georgia, had a close call when she reached out to touch a great white shark. According to Jimmy Armel of Knot Lucky Fishing, which runs the White Shark Tagging Program, the woman was petting the shark from a boat when it suddenly thrashed and lunged at her. Although no one on board felt that the situation was dangerous due to the shark being under control, the incident caused a stir among those present.
The program, which names each tagged shark after fallen Rangers or service members, aims to gather migration data while honoring military personnel. Based in Savannah, Georgia, Knot Lucky Fishing organizes free fishing trips for veterans and their families. They have already tagged ten great white sharks as part of this initiative.
