Hurricane Lala brought strong winds and heavy rain to Hawaii's Big Island on Saturday, with maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h making it a Category 1 hurricane. The storm skirted the island without making landfall, but still caused significant damage and disruption. Tropical storm warnings remained in effect for several islands, including Maui, Oahu, and Kauai, as the storm moved westward. Heavy rainfall was expected to continue into Sunday, potentially causing flooding and mudslides, especially in higher elevations on the Big Island. The National Weather Service warned of "life-threatening" conditions, and Governor Josh Green urged residents to prepare for the worst. Tens of thousands of properties were left without power as strong winds persisted, and officials reported that several homes may have been swept off their foundations by flash flooding. One person was confirmed dead in a weather-related car accident on the Big Island.
