On October 27, 1971, Princess Anne began her official visit to Hong Kong, receiving a warm welcome from its residents on what was declared a public holiday for the occasion. Princess Anne arrived in a stylish beige suit and wide-brimmed hat, flying into Hong Kong the previous day. During her visit, she made stops at significant locations such as the Tung Wah Hospital, Po Leung Kuk, and the ancient Man Mo Temple. She also planned to sightsee and shop in Sheung Wan, a district with a history nearly as long as that of the colony itself. Princess Anne's visit was part of her broader tour of the "Pearl of the Orient," as Hong Kong is often called, which she had heard much about from her father.
