On October 24, Kenneth Rickenbacker, 44, allegedly set fire to his girlfriend inside their apartment in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. The attack occurred around 5 p.m., and Rickenbacker reportedly first threatened his 11-year-old daughter with a knife before setting the blaze. First responders arrived to find smoke billowing from the apartment door and heard cries of pain near a torched mattress. His girlfriend was severely burned and remains in a medically induced coma at Weill Cornell Hospital Burn Center. Rickenbacker, who appeared in Brooklyn Criminal Court on October 27, claims it was an accident that occurred when he pushed his girlfriend, causing her to catch fire from a lit cigarette she had rubbing alcohol on her hands. He faces multiple charges for the alleged arson attack.
