On October 26, 2026, thousands of people gathered at Marseille's Old Port for an anti-racism protest following a shooting incident three days earlier in Trappes and La Verrière, south-west of Paris. The gunman killed Pengo Bossio Wangi, a 26-year-old amateur MMA fighter, and injured five others, including a critically wounded 12-year-old girl who was shot while walking to a swimming pool. Prosecutors are investigating the attack as a suspected racist terrorist act; the suspect, a 39-year-old man, was arrested shortly after in Coignières.
Called by an anti-racism coalition, trade unions and local groups, the demonstration saw protesters carrying placards condemning racial hatred.
