Sendai, Japan, has been named the most comfortable city in the country amid record-breaking heat elsewhere, according to data from the Japan Meteorological Agency. The city's average maximum temperature was 26.8 degrees Celsius over summer 2025-2026, the lowest since 2020. Sendai experienced only 31 midsummer days—when temperatures exceed 30 degrees Celsius—and no days with temperatures below freezing from September 2025 to August 2026. This makes it cooler compared to Tokyo, which has seen more extreme heat conditions during the same period.
