Story summary

President Trump promised to give every American adult $5,000 if the Republicans win the House and Senate in the upcoming midterms. He made this pledge at a rally in North Carolina and during the Republican midterm convention in Dallas. However, most Republican candidates are not incorporating this "Trump Dividend" into their campaigns due to its implausibility and potential cost of over $1 trillion. The proposal faces significant hurdles including congressional approval and legal scrutiny for vote buying. Some Republicans like House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole and Rep. Ralph Norman oppose the idea, citing concerns about funding and debt, while others offer tacit support but doubt its feasibility.
