As of 2026, Florida has become an unexpected battleground for democratic socialism, with thirteen chapters of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) spread across the state from Pensacola to Miami-Dade County. This is despite Florida traditionally being a stronghold for free-market policies and conservative politics. Nationally, there are around 240 DSA chapters, nearly two dozen of which are in California, making Florida the second-highest with thirteen chapters, surprising many observers who associate socialism more closely with liberal states like California. The emergence of these socialist groups in Florida is seen as a challenge to the state's conservative agenda and its reputation for rejecting socialist policies since the onset of the pandemic.
