The UK experienced its second named storm, Storm Boelo, which hit northern parts of the country on October 24-25, 2026. This followed Storm Austen earlier in the week. Storm Boelo brought gusts up to 84mph, causing widespread travel disruptions and power outages affecting more than 82,000 properties. In Scotland, wind speeds reached over 80mph, leading to bridge closures and severe road conditions with fallen trees blocking several major routes. The Met Office issued amber warnings advising people in affected areas to stay indoors due to the danger from flying debris and crashing waves. The storm also caused flooding in towns like Largs, North Ayrshire, where floodwater coursed around the town center. Travel disruptions included flight diversions and cancellations at Leeds Bradford Airport and train delays across Scotland. Emergency services are working to restore power and clear roads as the storm continues to impact northern England, Scotland, and parts of Northern Ireland.
