On October 16, Donald Trump's administration took actions that reduced Ukraine's access to a critical satellite internet service called Starlink, allegedly at the behest of Elon Musk. This came after Trump lifted sanctions on Russian diesel fuel, causing significant strain in U.S.-Ukraine relations. On October 25, Musk confirmed SpaceX had restricted Starlink’s high-speed capabilities for Ukraine, citing violations of terms of service related to offensive drone strikes against Russia. Ukrainian officials disputed these claims, arguing that such restrictions would have made their defensive operations impossible. Despite the controversy, by October 26, access to Starshield satellite internet was reportedly restored at speeds up to 420 kilometers per hour, following a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff in Oslo.
