The Aporia
On August 21, Austin Sim-Pelletier was arrested for stabbing two worshippers, aged 75 and 51, at the Nanaksar Gurdwara Gursikh Temple in northeast Edmonton. The assaults occurred with a screwdriver; both victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries and are still recovering. Police charged Sim-Pelletier on Friday with assault causing bodily harm, possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes, and mischief. He was released from prison a day before the attack after serving time for aggravated assault and assaulting a peace officer but failed to meet his parole officer, leading to an arrest warrant. Edmonton police stated there is currently no evidence supporting hate crime charges despite the Sikh temple setting as the scene of the incident.
