Vincent Kompany, 40, the head coach of Bayern Munich, was rushed to hospital after collapsing during a training session for the club's reserve team on Friday. He had been battling a viral infection recently and missed some training sessions as well as a pre-match news conference before their Champions League game against Arsenal earlier this week. Kompany is currently in stable condition at the hospital, undergoing thorough medical examinations.
Max Eberl, Bayern’s Board Member for Sport, stated that Kompany's recovery will take "weeks" due to the incident and emphasized the club's commitment to his health, prioritizing a full recovery over immediate return to coaching duties. Assistant coach Aaron Danks will manage all training and match operations until Kompany recovers.
The Bundesliga leaders were scheduled to travel to Freiburg on Sunday for an upcoming game but decided not to postpone it despite considering the option earlier. Eberl believes that playing well in the match would be beneficial for Kompany's morale and recovery process.
