On Friday at Fernando Air Base in Batangas province south of Manila, two SF-260 aircraft operated by the Philippine Air Force collided mid-air during a training flight and crashed, killing all four pilots onboard. Both planes went down within the base grounds without causing injuries on the ground. This incident follows another fatal crash involving the same type of plane in May when an SF-260 crashed in northern Philippines, killing two pilots. The Philippine Air Force has temporarily grounded its fleet of SF-260s pending a full investigation into the cause of these accidents.
The accident was a setback to the underfunded Philippine military.
