As of October 23, 2026, Ukrainian police arrested a 17-year-old girl in Zhytomyr, west of Kyiv, who is suspected of sending poisoned capsules to Ukrainian soldiers via Telegram. The girl allegedly received instructions from a Russian handler and was paid at least 5,000 hryvnias ($111) for her involvement. Two soldiers died from the lethal dose of methadone contained in the capsules they were instructed to take on camera as part of what Ukraine describes as an attempt by Russia's security services to poison Ukrainian troops. Police identified other recipients of these packages, preventing four more potential deaths across the country. This incident highlights ongoing accusations between Ukraine and Russia about recruiting minors for sabotage acts since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.
