French rugby mourned the death of 17-year-old player Cléa Menier with tributes across the country this weekend. Menier died following a match on Saturday when she was playing for Union du Bassin Marmandais against Agen Agglo Rugby; an "accident" during the game led to her being taken to Pellegrin Hospital in Bordeaux, where she passed away from her injuries on Wednesday. The French Rugby Federation (FFR) decided to honor her memory with a minute’s applause before every professional and amateur match this weekend. Players of the French women's national team will also wear black armbands during their upcoming match against New Zealand.
