On October 23, 2026, a series of 12 earthquakes struck off the coast of Sicily, Italy, with one measuring up to 5.7 magnitude and occurring at a depth of 10km north of the island. The epicenter was less than 60 miles from Palermo, prompting precautionary evacuations in schools in Palermo and Messina due to a tsunami alert issued by officials. The US Geological Survey recorded this significant tremor, with all other 11 quakes registering above 3.0 magnitude. While no injuries or property damage were reported immediately, residents felt the tremors in several towns including Patti, Licata, Capo d'Orlando, and Campofelice di Roccella.
