The residents of a pretty Sussex enclave fear their village will lose its rural identity if plans to build nearly 6,000 new homes nearby go ahead.

With the South Downs as a backdrop, Hurstpierpoint has become a draw for celebrities including YouTube millionaire Zoella, while actor Tom Hardy also lives nearby.
But locals claim plans to carpet the area with new housing will lead to it becoming effectively merged with the nearby village of Hassocks and the town of Burgess Hill to form a single 'urban sprawl'.
