On October 23, Alodid, a man accused of attempting to murder Stephen Ogilvie in north Belfast on June 8, pleaded not guilty during a court hearing. The attack left Ogilvie blind in his left eye and with deep cuts to his head, face, and back; it was filmed and widely shared on social media. This incident sparked racially motivated riots across Northern Ireland where masked mobs burned homes, cars, and a bus, targeting people based on race. Foreign national healthcare workers also faced threats and intimidation. Alodid is charged with attempted murder, possession of a knife, and threatening behavior in the hours following the attack. The judge set his trial for February 1, but both prosecution and defense attorneys hope it will not take two weeks to complete.
