Det Con Linda Williams, who was raped in 2004 by PC David Carrick, a serial abuser jailed for life in 2023 for sexual offenses against her and eleven other women, has accused the Metropolitan Police (Met) of mishandling her case, saying it felt "like being raped all over again." The BBC reports that Linda's civil lawsuit seeking damages from the Met due to its failure to protect her from Carrick left her suicidal. She criticizes the force for attempting to minimize the severity of her PTSD by suggesting she had only experienced a single incident and remained an exemplary officer. Linda asserts this approach fails to acknowledge how trauma can manifest, and it has affected every aspect of her life.
The Met claims it aimed to handle her case as quickly and compassionately as possible while trying to reduce further distress. However, Linda now calls for the resignation of Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley, stating he has failed to change police culture as promised.
