Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer is cracking down on parents whose children are involved in e-bike and e-motorcycle accidents, with 12 parents facing charges this year for allowing their underage kids to ride illegal e-motos. In May, Benson Nguyen, a 13-year-old boy from Garden Grove, died after crashing his e-moto at over 40 miles per hour into a light pole while performing dangerous stunts; he had posted such videos on TikTok. Videos of children riding these high-powered vehicles illegally and dangerously often circulate on social media platforms like TikTok, prompting legal action by authorities to hold parents accountable for their children's safety violations.
Parents in a growing number of communities are being held criminally responsible when their children are involved in serious accidents involving electric motorcycles.
