The Aporia
In late 2023, more than 300,000 olive ridley turtles arrived at La Escobilla beach in Oaxaca, southern Mexico, marking one of the largest mass nestings known as "la arribada." Over a period of just two days, thousands of these endangered reptiles surged ashore to lay their eggs. This is the sixth wave of nesting during this year's season, which began in March. However, rising temperatures and drier conditions due to climate change are increasingly threatening hatchling survival rates.
