On October 22, 2026, two major 911 systems in California suddenly malfunctioned, causing widespread chaos. Callers in Oakland and Riverside County were unable to reach emergency dispatchers at times due to the outage. The Oakland Police Department reported computer glitches late Wednesday night, with all calls being rerouted to the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office. In Riverside County, the sheriff's department alerted residents that some callers could not connect using their cell phones and advised them to call 951-776-1078 for emergencies if 911 was down. Both departments are working with AT&T to restore services as quickly as possible.
